PALCCOYO RAINBOW MOUNTAIN & Q’ESWACHAKA BRIDGE – FULL DAY
Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain: an experience that stands out at 4920 metres above the sea level. As you move through different climates, you will see camelids, the typical fauna and flora of the region as well as the Andean communities, the colourful Palcoyo mountains and part of the snow-capped Ausangate summit, the highest of Cusco. You will finally visit the Q’eswachaka Bridge.
FIRST STAGE - CUSCO – PALCCOYO RAINBOW MOUNTAIN
Early in the morning, around 3:00 am, we will pick you up at your hotel. For a better comfort, we will give you a blanket to let you sleep during the three-hour transportation. This is the only way to achieve this incredible excursion. In route, we will cross Andean villages where civilization does not have changed their habits and customs since the Inca era. It is recommended to spend two days in Cusco before departure to avoid altitude sickness, also known as soroche.
Unlike the Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain, the walk to the Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain is easier and is suggested for older people and children. The hike is an average of 2 hours and the altitude difference is about 150 metres.
During this tour, you will appreciate the colours of big and small mountains, which go from turquoise to orange, brown, red and black. While walking, you will also discover the famous forest of stones with its figures formed by the time. Once at the top, you will see all the rainbow mountains and the Red Valley, named for the colour of its peaks. Another adventure that you could experiment.
SECOND STAGE - PALCCOYO RAINBOW MOUNTAIN - Q’ESWACHAKA BRIDGE - CUSCO
These colourful mountains are few in the Peruvian Andes. It is therefore an extraordinary experience and a privilege to enjoy this tour. We will then continue the road until the Q’eswachaka Bridge. This bridge was built with straw called ichu and date from the Inca era. It is now renewed every year by the inhabitants of the region during the second week of June.
We will cross this bridge, as the Incas did in their time. It was, at this period, a means of communication between the communities and the Inca Trail. Lastly, we will take a lunch before returning to Cusco at dusk.
