Chronicle of an Unforgettable Andean Winter
🏞️ ROUTE 1 – Humantay Lagoon
July 2019 will be remembered as one of the coldest winters in the city of Cusco. Minimum temperatures averaged 0.2 °C, making it the coldest month of the year and one of the most extreme of the past decade. Although subsequent years recorded similar conditions, none surpassed the climatic intensity of that July, when frost and snowfall marked every step along the trekking routes.
Despite the cold, the landscape transformed into a natural gallery of wonders. Snowcapped peaks stood majestic at every turn, and the route to Humantay Lagoon became an epic journey. In that context, our team —guides, chefs, and porters— showed admirable courage, facing the conditions with professionalism and dedication.
Our travelers, driven by a passion for adventure, overcame ice and wind to reach the spectacular Humantay Lagoon, a turquoise mirror surrounded by snowy summits. The satisfaction of arriving was not only physical, but deeply emotional: conquering the cold meant conquering personal limits.
Now, in 2025, we look back with gratitude and perspective. July remains the coldest month in Cusco, and each year reminds us of the importance of preparation, respect for the mountains, and team spirit. In the Andes, winter is not an obstacle — it’s part of the journey.
