4 DAYS AND 3 NIGHTS OF UNFORGETTABLE ADVENTURES IN THE WHITE CORDILLERA
The Classic Trek Santa Cruz is the classic and the most popular road of the White Cordillera. This trek is characterised by four (4) days of walking through one of the most spectacular zones of the White Cordillera. You will pass through canyons and their turquoise lagoons, forests, high Andean meadows and mountains of more than 6,000 meters high.
You will also cross mountain pass such as Punta Union, at 4,750 meters, and Portachuelo de Llanganuco, at 4,765 meters. From these places, you could appreciate one of the most impressive views of the White Cordillera’s mountains.
Also, this road allows a progressive ascension which favours a better altitude acclimation.
The beginning of the trek is characterised by a lent and progressive climb, while following the Santa Cruz’s stream. You will after cross the mountain pass of Punta Union, at 4,750 meters high, and walk down through the Huaripampa’s ravine until Vaqueria.
From this place, our transportation will bring us to Portachuelo de Llanganuco, at 4,765 meters high. We will after walk down while following the Portachuelo watercourse to visit the lagoons of Llanganuco: Chinancocha and Orconcocha. Finally, we will come back to the city of Huaraz.
HUARAZ - CASHAPAMPA (2,900 M) BUS 3H | CASHAPAMPA - LLAMACORRAL (3,650 M) 4H
From the Huaraz’s city, at the north of Callejon de Huaylas, we will walk down until the city of Caraz, located at 2,300 meters of altitude. We will after begin the ascension to reach the White Cordillera by walling through a dirt road before arriving at the small village of Cashapampa (2,900 m).
At this place, you will meet the trek’s personal: guide, cooks and muleteers. We will start the trek by crossing the Santa Cruz stream before installing our camp at Llamacorral, located at 3,650 meters high.
LLAMACORRAL - TAULLIPAMPA (4,000 M) 5H
We will continue the trek through the wide canyon of Santa Cruz, while crossing the Ichiccocha and Jutuncocha’s lagoons. We will after reach Quisuar, where we will start a walk until the Alpamayo base camp.
From this place, you could enjoy an amazing view of the:
- Quitaraju (6,040 m)
- Alpamayo (5,947 m)
- Artesonraju (6,025 m) and other peaks.
Finally, we will walk until our camp, at Taullipampa, located at 4,000 meters, at the bottom of the impressive Taulliraju, which is 5,830 meters high.
TAULLIPAMPA - HUARIPAMPA (3,600 M) 7H
This day is characterised by the crossing of a narrow and zigzag road between the impressive Taulliraju and the turquoise lagoon of Taullicocha. We will after arrive to Punta Union, located at 4,750 meters high, where we can see the:
- Chacraraju (6,112 m)
- Artesonraju (6,025 m)
- Piramide (5,885 m)
- Huandoy (6,395 m)
- Alpamayo (5,940)
- Santa Cruz (6,259 m)
- Rinrihirca (5,810 m)
- Taulliraju (5,830 m) and other peaks.
We will after walk down towards the lagoons of Morococha, towards the oriental side of the White Cordillera, to reach the wide canyon of Huaripampa. Finally, we will move in the direction of our camp, at Huaripampa (3,600 m), by walking though forests and Andean meadows.
HUARIPAMPA - VAQUERIA (3,700 M) 3H | VAQUERIA - HUARAZ (3,100 M) BUS 4H
During this day, we will continue to walk down until the small Andean village of Colcabamba (3,350 m) to later start the ascension until Vaqueria (3,700 m) where our transportation will bring us to Portachuelo de Llanganuco (4,765 m).
From this place, you could enjoy an impressive view of the peaks of
- Huascarán norte (6,768m)
- Huascarán sur (6,650m)
- Chopicalqui (6,354m)
- Huandoy (6,395m)
- and Pisco (5,752m).
Later, we will walk down until the watercourse of Llanganuco to appreciate the Orconcocha and Chinancocha’s lagoons. Finally, we will come back to Huaraz’s city.
